Jamaica Welcomes New Gateway to the French Caribbean with Liat Air

Historic Nonstop Service Between Guadeloupe (PTP) and Montego Bay (MBJ) will be the First Direct Air Link between the Two Islands

KINGSTON; Jamaica; June 2, 2026 – Minister of Tourism, Hon Edmund Bartlett, has welcomed a landmark moment in Caribbean aviation history as Liat Air sets to launch nonstop service between Pointe-à-Pitre International Airport, Guadeloupe (PTP) and Sangster International Airport, Montego Bay (MBJ) next month. Operating every Tuesday and Saturday aboard an Embraer ERJ 145, the new route marks the first-ever direct air connection between Guadeloupe and Jamaica.

“This new Liat Air service is a milestone not just for Jamaica, but for the entire Caribbean region. For the first time, the people of Guadeloupe and the broader Francophone Caribbean can fly directly to Jamaica — no connections, no layovers, just one direct flight to one of the world’s best destinations. This route is a powerful signal that Jamaica is open, accessible, and ready to welcome visitors from every corner of our region. I congratulate Liat Air, the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), and all our hotel and trade partners for making this historic corridor a reality,” said Minister Bartlett.

The PTP–MBJ route opens Jamaica to the Francophone Caribbean for the first time via nonstop service, giving Guadeloupean leisure travellers, festival goers, and European visitors already transiting through Guadeloupe via Air France, Corsair, and Air Caraïbes, a seamless gateway to Jamaica. In the reverse direction, the service enables Jamaicans to discover Guadeloupe’s culinary heritage and volcanic landscapes with a direct two hour and forty-minute flight from Montego Bay.

“The Guadeloupe market represents a tremendous and largely untapped opportunity for Jamaica. With over 300,000 residents and a steady flow of French and European visitors transiting through Pointe-à-Pitre, this route connects Jamaica to an entirely new source market. The JTB has worked closely with Liat Air, our resort partners, and the Jamaican trade to ensure this route launches with strong commercial foundations. We look forward to welcoming Guadeloupean visitors to Jamaica’s world-class beaches, resorts, and cultural events,” said Donovan White, Director of Tourism.

Dedicated fare packages targeting Guadeloupean reggae fans are available via flyliatair.com, with fly-and-stay bundles also available through Montego Bay’s leading resort properties.

Looking ahead, the JTB and Liat Air have outlined a joint marketing programme targeting 12,000 passengers in the route’s first year of operation with a series of traditional and non-traditional marketing activities to boost interest and engagement for the new route.
