KINGSTON, JAMAICA, June 25, 2025 – Jamaica Tourist Board welcomed American Airlines to Montego Bay this week in efforts to restore two sports fields at the local St. James High School.
In collaboration with nonprofit Glasswing International, more than 40 American Airlines team members worked to restore the school’s sports fields to enhance the holistic learning experience for the school’s 1,785 students and 118 teachers – boosting morale, promoting academic achievement, and creating a more dynamic and supportive environment for growth.
“This collaboration between American Airlines and Glasswing International exemplifies the power of partnership in uplifting our communities,” said Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism, Hon Edmund Bartlett. “By investing in our youth and educational spaces, we are not only enhancing school life but also nurturing the next generation of Jamaican leaders and athletes. We are deeply grateful for this meaningful contribution to St. James High School and the broader Montego Bay community.”

“At American Airlines we have a strong commitment with Jamaica, a country that we have proudly called home for almost 50 years,” said José A. Freig, Vice President of International and Inflight Dining Operations. “Through our continued partnership with Glasswing International, our hope is that our team members are able to make a positive and lasting impact, together giving back to a community that is so important in our Caribbean network.”
Beyond its physical impact, the revitalized sports area is also expected to help improve student engagement, reduce dropout rates, and enhance overall school attendance—providing a home advantage for student-athletes and a renewed sense of school spirit.
“At Glasswing, we believe in the transformative power of community partnerships. This project in Jamaica is a meaningful opportunity to strengthen educational and wellness spaces, while working hand in hand with volunteers, partners, and communities committed to creating change. We are honored to collaborate with American Airlines in this effort to generate lasting impact in the lives of children and youth across the region,” said Chris Martínez, Regional Projects Director, Glasswing International.
This summer, American is operating 15 peak daily flights from three destinations in Jamaica — Kingston (KIN), Montego Bay (MBJ) and Ocho Rios (OCJ) — increasing to 20 peak daily flights in winter.
“We’re proud to serve as the largest U.S. airline in Jamaica, offering up to 93 weekly flights this summer,” said José María Giraldo, Managing Director of Operations for Mexico, the Caribbean, Canada, and Central America. “We continue expanding our footprint in the country, launching service to Ocho Rios last year and growing our operation by more than 17% for the summer, both highlighting our nearly five decades of commitment with Jamaica.”
Over the past few years, Jamaica has seen a significant increase in airlift due to partnerships with companies like American Airlines. In 2024, the island welcomed 4.3 million visitors and generated approximately US$4.35 billion in tourism earnings, which directly contributed to its economy.
“We believe that tourism should create lasting, positive change in the communities we serve, and this initiative at St. James High School is a shining example of how meaningful partnerships can go beyond travel to leave a real impact,” said Jamaica’s Director of Tourism, Donovan White. “We are proud to support efforts that empower our youth and strengthen the future of Jamaica.”

The occasion was a press conference at Grand Hyatt Baha Mar in Nassau, to highlight the strengthening of the partnership between Bahamasair and the Jamaica Tourist Board.
KINGSTON; Jamaica: Thursday June 26, 2025 – Minister of Tourism, Hon Edmund Bartlett has welcomed the tourism growth between Nassau, The Bahamas, and Montego Bay, Jamaica, following the successful launch of Bahamasair’s direct twice-weekly service that began in November 2024.
Since the inaugural flight touched down at Sangster International Airport seven months ago, visitor arrivals from Nassau to Montego Bay has seen a steady increase, with Jamaica welcoming 3,092 arrivals and 3,074 departures to The Bahamas. This demonstrates the pent-up demand for seamless travel between these two Caribbean tourism powerhouses.
“The success of this route demonstrates the tremendous potential for intra-Caribbean travel when we remove barriers and create convenient connections,” said Minister of Tourism, Hon Edmund Bartlett. “Nassau visitors are discovering the unique attractions of western Jamaica, from our pristine beaches to our rich cultural heritage while Jamaicans now can explore the unique features of the islands of The Bahamas. The new route also provides economic benefits for both countries through increased visitor spend,” Minister Bartlett added.
Search for travel to Jamaica has increased significantly since the inaugural flight which will help to drive interest in travel over the next three months. In fact, Jamaica maintains the largest market share of Caribbean destination searches from the Bahamas, consistently above Dominican Republic, Barbados, and St. Lucia.
“The direct link has facilitated deeper cultural and business relationships between Jamaica and The Bahamas which exemplifies successful intra-Caribbean collaboration. This is more than just a flight route – it’s a bridge connecting our Caribbean family,” said Director of Tourism, Donovan White.
The 1 hour and 25-minute flight operating on Thursdays and Sundays has eliminated the need for lengthy connections through the US or other international gateways. The projected increase in visitor spending is set to provide a significant boost to local businesses, hotels, restaurants, and tour operators for both countries.
During a recent visit by the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) to The Bahamas, Bahamasair Chairman, Tanya Pratt, said, “The Caribbean is strongest when we move forward together. This isn’t just a visit, it’s a celebration of shared values, family, and vision. What we’re building today will have lasting ripple effects.”
Bahamasair’s Deputy Managing Director, Shevonn Cambridge added that Bahamasair’s belief is that airlift is “not just about transportation, it’s about connection.” He thanked the Jamaica Tourist Board for its trust and collaboration in shaping a new model of regional partnership.

Jamaica provided a cultured musical experience by Sevana at the Bahamasair and JTB mix and mingle event held on June 14, 2025 in The Bahamas.
To strengthen this new partnership and to drive awareness and sales, Bahamasair collaborated with the JTB to provide reciprocal immersive experiences to better understand the offerings of its islands. The activation helped to educate and inspire a deeper partnership grounded in working to promote the route.
The direct service has an appeal from leisure travellers seeking to experience multiple Caribbean destinations in a single trip, as well as business travellers strengthening commercial ties between the two nations. The JTB continues to work closely with Bahamasair to enhance airlift and connectivity throughout the Caribbean, supporting the region’s collective tourism growth.

KINGSTON, Jamaica; Monday June 9, 2025: As the Jamaica Tourist Board celebrates its milestone 70th anniversary, Minister of Tourism, Hon Edmund Bartlett has reiterated that workers in the sector are at the heart of the destination’s success and excellence.
In highlighting this fact, the Minister has unveiled a strategic framework that places tourism workers at the absolute center of the island’s tourism development strategy. The comprehensive initiative positions Jamaica as the Caribbean’s premier destination through investment in human capital.
Speaking at the Jamaica Tourist Board’s 70th anniversary celebration at the Hard Rock Hotel in New York on Wednesday June 4, Minister Bartlett emphasised the importance of building human capital to future proof Jamaica’s tourism for the next 70 years and beyond.
“Our people have always been Jamaica’s greatest asset, and this strategy formally recognizes that truth. To ensure the resilience of the sector, we will build a tourism ecosystem where every worker – from housekeepers to hotel managers, tour guides to transportation providers – has the tools, training, and opportunities to thrive.”

Joining in the moment (L-R) are Ricardo Henry, Business Development Officer – Northeast USA, Allana Faustin, Inside Sales Communications Officer, Victoria Harper, District Sales Manager-Northeast USA and Donovan White, Director of Tourism.
The initiative encompasses three core pillars designed to transform Jamaica’s tourism workforce – Training and Certification to upskill workers and change the labour market arrangement; Housing; and access to the already established Tourism Workers Pension scheme.
“This all falls under our drive to build human capital and make the necessary investment in our people who are our most iconic attraction. As tourism continues to evolve our workers will need the skills to adapt and meet the increasing demands. When our workers are equipped, our service standards and resilience will contribute to the sector’s future proofing,” said Minister of Tourism, Hon Edmund Bartlett.
For 70 years, the Jamaica Tourist Board has been at the helm of promoting the island as a premier warm weather destination. Last year the island welcomed 4.3 million visitors with a projection of 5 million for 2025.
“This is about recognizing that sustainable tourism depends on sustainable livelihoods for the people who make our industry possible. When our workers prosper, our visitors have better experiences, communities benefit, and our entire nation grows stronger,” said Director of Tourism, Donovan White.

NEW YORK, New York, Wednesday June 4, 2025 – Minister of Tourism for Jamaica, Hon. Edmund Bartlett on Monday delivered a keynote address at the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s (CTO) Leadership Luncheon, calling for bold action to build tourism resilience across the Caribbean region. Speaking under the theme ‘Caribbean Resilience: Crafting Tomorrow’s Tourism,’ Minister Bartlett outlined a transformative vision for sustainable tourism development.
The CTO Caribbean Week 2025 continues through June 6, bringing together tourism leaders, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to advance the theme.
“We stand at the cusp of an era that is uncertain yet laden with possibility,” declared Minister Bartlett. “We have an urgent duty to transform the Caribbean into a paragon of sustainable, resilient, and community-centered tourism. Our story is not one of victimhood—it is one of steadfast resilience and unbreakable unity.”
The focus of Minister Bartlett’s address was his passionate call for the establishment of a Tourism Resilience Fund specifically designed to support small island developing states across the Caribbean.
Pictured: Minister of Tourism, Hon Edmund Bartlett (R) gives Minister of Tourism for Barbados, Hon Ian Gooding-Edghill (L) and Secretary General and CEO of CTO, Donna Regis-Prosper (C) copies of his new co-authored book, ‘Decoding the Future of Tourism’ at CTO Week in New York.
The Minister emphasized that such a fund would serve as both a practical mechanism for crisis response and a symbol of regional commitment to safeguarding tourism’s future. “This Fund is not merely a financial mechanism; it is a symbolic and practical testament to our commitment to safeguarding the future of tourism for small island developing states,” Minister Bartlett stated.
He also highlighted the pivotal role of the Global Tourism Resilience & Crisis Management Centre (GTRCMC), which he helped establish, in steering the region through future challenges. “The GTRCMC stands as more than an institution—it is the backbone of our future strategy, a future where disruptions and shocks are met with swift, coordinated, and science-based actions,” the Minister emphasized.
Minister Bartlett concluded his address by emphasizing that Caribbean resilience represents more than a theme—it is a strategic imperative that will guide the region’s economic development and global leadership in the coming decades.
“Let the Caribbean be a beacon of possibility—a region that faced enormous challenges, yet chose collaboration over isolation, sustainability over short-sightedness, and resilience over resignation,” Minister Bartlett stated. “Together, we have the power to craft a tourism model that is inclusive, regenerative, and future-focused.”
Minister Bartkett is leading a small delegation at CTO Week in New York. The week of activities will feature dynamic discussions, cultural celebrations, and industry networking, including the Caribbean Media Marketplace, Caribbean Media Awards, leadership forums, artificial intelligence panels, and CTO’s high-level business meetings.
